One of the owners of a village retail store has released security footage of a trio of suspects potentially linked to a theft from the shop earlier this week.

Miranda Foord of Peak Performance Whistler said three men entered the store on Tuesday, Sept. 28, with one of them making out with a pair of ski pants with a sticker price of $700.

“It was definitely planned,” said Foord, who wasn’t in the shop at the time but has reviewed security footage and spoken with a staff member who was present. “You could tell by the way they pulled a staff member away from the rack and then they actually bought something.”

When the trio exited, the security alarm sounded, which the staff member believed had been set off by the item the suspects had already paid for.

Foord has reported the incident to police and warned other local shops to keep an eye out.

“It’s the kind of thing that’s so easy to do if you’re not on guard,” she said.

Staff Sgt. Paul Hayes with the Whistler RCMP confirmed investigators are looking into the incident and trying to determine if there’s a potential link to other recent shoplifting cases.

Anyone with information on this theft or the suspects involved should contact the detachment at 604-932-30444, or Sea to Sky Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 to remain anonymous.

Bike thieves reportedly use door opener to access garage

Whistler police are on the lookout for a trio of bikes that were reportedly stolen from a garage in Cheakamus Crossing this week, according to a release.

On Saturday, Sept. 26, RCMP was notified that someone had gained access to a parked vehicle the night prior where they found a garage-door opener, which they used to enter the garage, located in the 2700 block of Cheakamus Way.

The bikes are described as a matte black, 2015 V10 Santa Cruz model with turquoise “Squidworx’ pedals; a black and white 2017 YT Jeffsy with orange pedals and orange grips and accents; and a black 2020 Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt A10, with red accents.

“The Whistler RCMP continue to investigate this incident and are asking if anyone can provide any information surrounding the theft or perhaps have seen the bikes in the community to contact the Whistler RCMP at 604-932-3044 or Crimestoppers if you wish to remain anonymous,” police said.
