2010 logo to be unveiled at GM Place

More than 1,600 artists submitted concepts for official Olympic emblem

The Vancouver 2010 Bid logo, which combines mountains, the Sea to Sky Highway, the ocean and the Maple Leaf, will get its last hurrah over the next few weeks.

Two huge banners with the familiar logo were draped on the exterior of General Motors Place in Vancouver this week. Measuring 20 feet by 40 feet, the banners will stay in place until April 23, when the Vancouver Organizing Committee will launch the official banner at a public celebration which will be televised nationally.

Imagine 2010 — Canada’s Olympic Journey Begins will air on the CTV network at 7 p.m. April 23. The show at General Motors Place will feature hundreds of performers and special guests as the stage is set for the new logo’s unveiling.

An international judging panel received more than 1,600 logo submissions from across Canada. The winning logo will be adopted as the official emblem through the 2010 Winter Games.

As well as making Olympic history, the winning designer will also receive $25,000 and two tickets to the Vancouver 2010 opening ceremonies.

Complimentary tickets for the unveiling at General Motors Place are available from Ticketmaster to attend the unveiling. For more details visit www.vancouver2010.com.
