It will take time, but Bitcoin will continue to be adopted as consumers and merchants adapt to the idea of an entirely digital currency. This model of an instantly transaction-able, decentralized digital cash fits the global market we now inhabit more than anything we've ever seen. I personally believe not only is this method plausible, but absolutely necessary. We can no longer act as if our economy has political boundaries.
Skeptics and those with invested interests of established means will continue to point to the perceived susceptibility of the BTC and paint it as a currency for criminals and those of 'questionable' ethics. However, if I had to guess, drug dealers, gun runners and smut peddlers all still accept cash too.
