Nancy Greene Raine will have to move some of those awards crowding her mantel over to make space for yet another. Green Raine — still one of the most recognized names in Canadian skiing 32 years after her gold medal finish at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble — was among the five women out of 22 finalists honoured for their achievements at the Influential Women in Business Luncheon Awards held at the Waterfront Hotel in Vancouver last Thursday. She was chosen — along with Julia Levy, Nancy Stibbard, Maureen Chant and Gerri Sinclair — for her professional and entrepreneurial accomplishments, power and influence plus community involvement. Green Raine is not your stereotypical female executive but she is seen as a tourism entrepreneur who continues to develop sport and promote B.C. ski destinations. She is thought of as one of the influential women that make the province tick. The awards event was organized by the Women Entrepreneurs of Canada B.C. Chapter and Business in Vancouver Along with her husband Al Raine, Nancy has promoted B.C. ski destinations to local and international markets for more that 20 years beginning with Whistler in the ’70s and ’80s and in recent years from Sun Peaks Resort near Kamloops. She told Business in Vancouver the secret to her success in business is a love of working with people. It is the same recipe that has kept her a special place in the heart of Canadians. Greene Raine also said accolades must go to husband Al. She said her success is due in part to her relationship with him. "Our vision is the same. That’s why we complement each other."
