The Howe Sound Board of School Trustees has appointed a new principal for Whistler secondary school.

Ken Davies, currently principal of Nakusp secondary, in Arrow Lakes in the Kootenays, will take up his new position in Whistler in August.

Davies moved to the B.C. Interior in August, 1997 after more than three years as vice principal at Surrey's Elgin Park secondary.

He was also vice principal at the William Beagle junior secondary in Surrey from August, 1989 to January, 1994.

Davies, who is married with two children, has been an educator for more than 24 years. He received his Master of Education in Education Administration from the University of British Columbia in 1985. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in geography, from Simon Fraser University.

His appointment follows the decision of current Whistler secondary principal, Rick Smith, to transfer to Brackendale secondary school at the end of the current school year.
