The opening of the Whistler baseball season is in some doubt after someone in a truck severely damaged the fields at Spruce Grove Park. A conservative estimate puts the damage at $2,500, but municipal landscape supervisor Paul Beswetherick said it could be much higher. The multiple crossings and repeat patterns suggest the driver of the truck spent some time on the field. The full extent of the damage won’t be known until the spring. The vandalism occurred between Dec. 11 and Dec. 13. The tire tread is consistent with a model that is original equipment on Nissan Pathfinders and Toyota Forerunners. The Parks department hope that a member of the public may have seen or heard the truck and that someone will come forward with evidence. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Beswetherick at 932-2423.
