Paramedic remembered Friends of a Whistler paramedic missing after a Lear Jet crashed at the north end of the Queen Charlotte Islands last Wednesday are inviting everyone to attend a memorial Sunday. Wendy Thompson, who comes from Whistler, served with the local B.C. Ambulance crew for three years starting in 1987. She went missing during an air ambulance flight from the Lower Mainland to Masset to assist with a breech birth. Two bodies, that of the pilot and a doctor, have been recovered. The bodies of Thompson and two others are still missing. Jeff Sopel, unit chief at the Whistler ambulance station, says a memorial for Thompson will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. in the Atrium of the Whistler Conference Centre. After Thompson got into the paramedic service in Whistler, Sopel says he can remember her desire to always be challenged. "Wendy was very dedicated and very eager to learn," Sopel says. "After three years here she came to me and said she wanted to learn more and off she went down to the city." A memorial for the crew of the jet will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow in the Shell Hangar at the south terminal of the Vancouver International Airport.
