Delta Whistler Resort manager Hank Stackhouse is on the move. Stackhouse is leaving Whistler after 14 years to take up the position of ... in ... with Delta. Craig MacKenzie is the new chairman of the WRA board of directors. MacKenzie, who was elected in 1991 as a non-hotel lodging director, succeeds Hank Stackhouse. Greg Spearn is Intrawest's new senior vice president overseeing real estate programs at Blackcomb, Sun Peaks and Panorama. Spearn will report to Gary Raymond, President of Intrawest's real estate division. Free law The People's Law School and the Whistler Public Library are presenting a free seminar on employee rights Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the library. The seminar is intended to answer questions regarding employees' rights with respect to breaks, overtime, safety, termination and other topics. Pre-registration is required, and the library must have at least 10 registrations for the seminar to go ahead. Call 932-5564 to pre-register. Flu time The Whistler Health Unit is offering free flu vaccine to high-risk people on Friday, Oct. 20 at the Health Care Centre. Adults and children with heart or lung disorders severe enough to require medical follow up are of highest priority. As well, healthy people 65 years of age and over have a moderately increased risk of severe illness and death related to influenza. Flu season in Canada peaks in February and March, but with Whistler's increase in population at Christmas time the local flu season often starts sooner earlier. Protection from the vaccine generally begins about two weeks after immunization and may last six months or longer. The vaccine provides between 70 and 90 per cent protection against true influenza. It won't protect people from the common cold or other flu-like viruses. Today's vaccines are extremely safe — most people have little or no reaction to the vaccine.
