Free law The People's Law School and the Whistler Public Library are presenting a free seminar on employee rights Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the library. The seminar is intended to answer questions regarding employees' rights with respect to breaks, overtime, safety, termination and other topics. Flu time The Whistler Health Unit is offering free flu vaccine to high-risk people on Friday, Oct. 20 at the Health Care Centre. Adults and children with heart or lung disorders severe enough to require medical follow up are of highest priority. As well, healthy people 65 years of age and over have a moderately increased risk of severe illness and death related to influenza. Flu season in Canada peaks in February and March, but with Whistler's increase in population at Christmas time the local flu season often starts sooner earlier. Protection from the vaccine generally begins about two weeks after immunization and may last six months or longer. The vaccine provides between 70 and 90 per cent protection against true influenza. It won't protect people from the common cold or other flu-like viruses. Today's vaccines are extremely safe — most people have little or no reaction to the vaccine.
