Rescue co-ordinator Geoff Playfair and assistant co-ordinator Chris Nelson, both members of Whistler’s fire department, will attend a training program for high angle rescues. The fire department is responsible for rescues from cranes, such as the ones used to build Whistler Town Plaza. A number of cranes are expected in Whistler in the next few years as the last large projects are built. Playfair and Nelson will be taking a train the trainers program, so they will be able to teach high angle rescue techniques to other firefighters. The program was designed by GVRD fire chiefs, representatives of the construction industry and the Workers Compensation Board.
