The Whistler Public Library will receive $10,000 from the RMCC Ski Challenge on Blackcomb this spring. Librarian Joan Richoz says the money will be used for collection improvements, specifically for the children’s area. Books, videos, compact discs and books on tapes will be purchased, as well as a computer with a CD ROM player, a monitor and a VCR with headphones. The equipment, and some furniture for the children’s area, will help disabled children in particular. The RMCC Ski Challenge raises funds through corporate team entries in a weekend of skiing and festivities with past and present members of the Canadian ski team. Most of the money raised goes to Ronald McDonald House, but the RMCC Ski Challenge on Blackcomb has donated funds locally to help with various children’s projects. Meanwhile, all eight library trustees were turned at last week’s annual general meeting. Anne Fenwick, Marlene Siemens, Dan Greene, Sharon Broatch, Paul McIntyre, Bea Searle, Betty McWhinnie and Marilyn Crichton are the trustees. The library is also planning a display of books that have been banned, censored or challenged during Freedom to Read Week, Feb. 23-29.
