The sun was intense for the annual Edge to Edge Marathon on June 9, a popular event for both relay teams and individuals that runs from Ucluelet to Tofino on Vancouver Island’s west coast.

Only one Whistler local, Lee Edwards, competed in the marathon this year. With a time of 4 hours 14 minutes and 5 seconds, she was 50 th overall out of 107 competitors. An experienced middle distance runner, Edwards limped through the finish line with a pulled calf muscle to complete her first marathon.

Because of the heat, a number of runners were exhausted and were forced to walk the last leg of the course.

In the relay competition, four Whistler teams with five athletes took part.

The team captained by Astrid Cameron was the second all-female relay team and finished fourth overall with a time of 3:08:29.

Marie-Anne Prevost’s team was second in the mixed relay category and fifth overall with a time of 3:14:03.

Tami Ross’ team was ninth overall and sixth in the mixed race with a time of 3:30:12.

Lynn Venner’s all-female team was 35 th overall and 11 th in the category with a time of 4:22:11.
