Thrills and spills in Gravity series biker cross

The bikercross course on Whistler Mountain is less than four metres wide from top to bottom, and the fastest route from top to bottom is considerably tighter.

The bikercross course on Whistler Mountain is less than four metres wide from top to bottom, and the fastest route from top to bottom is considerably tighter.

Throw four determined mountain bikers on course at the same time, and what follows is a race with thrills, spills and one close call after another.

The bikercross kicked off the Whistler Gravity Series on June 18. The Uphill-Downhill race that was to take place has been postponed indefinitely, leaving bikercross and downhill events on the calendar for the time being. The next event is a downhill on July 2, the day before the Joyride 2002 bikercross event.

The winner of the series will be determined at the end of the season. Organizer Paul Fournier hopes to have cash prizes for pro racers and prizes for other competitive categories.
