The Squamish Business Park is set to get a little bigger.
Squamish council adopted three bylaws on July 2 which allow for the development of Large Scale Single Tenant Commercial Retailers along the front of the park on Highway 99. The majority of the community supports this type of development, according to a December 2001 referendum.
The District of Squamish held a referendum to determine support for a big box-style retail outlet in the business park last year. Approximately three-quarters of the votes cast were in favour of specialized community development.
Council is looking forward to receiving proposals and "adding to the momentum of positive growth in the Squamish community," according to a press release. That growth includes the 2010 Olympic bid, the new university, and the revival of a Squamish ski resort project.
Funny money in Whistler
There are phoney $20 bills around town, according to the Whistler RCMP. The police have confirmed that older style $20 notes being passed around are counterfeit bills. They said older style $10 notes are also in circulation.
The Whistler Chamber of Commerce advises all frontline or money-handling staff to be aware of the issue and make sure they are trained in detecting counterfeit currency.
The chamber would also like to let members know of the "Don’t take a fake" video for training purposes. It is available for free rental through the Whistler Chamber of Commerce Training Department at 604-932-5922.
