Whistler’s Alexandra Mclean, who is in her first year at the University of British Columbia, was selected to represent Canada at the 2003 World University Games in Tarvisio, Italy. The "Universiade" runs from Jan. 16 to 26.

Mclean is a member of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club and UBC Ski Team, and last season raced with the B.C. Women’s Ski Team.

B.C. Alpine program director Gordie Bowles calls the team "an impressive group, one of the better groups assembled for this event in Canada in a long time."

In total, six men and women were selected to the team from across the country, based on their world ranking.

Mclean, who continues to coach the Super J4 program at Whistler-Blackcomb, will race in all four alpine disciplines – downhill, super-G, giant slalom and slalom.

The Games are held every two years and are the second largest multi-sport event in the world. Athletes from more than 50 countries will compete in nine sports and 50 events over two weeks.
