What: Tango Paradiso

Where: MY Place

When: Friday, Feb. 14

Want to snuggle into that lusty object on your arm? Spend a night with Tango Paradiso, taking you back to those sultry days in the bordellos and bars of Argentina.

The Vancouver quartet perform traditional and post modern tango music against a backdrop of authentic dancers in a colourful and passionate atmosphere. They have performed to sold out concerts at two Du Maurier Jazz festivals, the Vancouver Sun concert series, the Nanaimo Jazz Society concert series and the Glen Eden recital concert series in Oregon, among others.

Tango Paradiso present faithful renditions of classics by the likes of Astor Piazzola, their own unique arrangements and original compositions which meld with Tango influences from jazz and new music.

Group members are Antonio Bernall (violin), Douglas Schmidt (bandoneon, accordion), Budge Schachte (guitar). and Patricia Hutter (double bass).

The MY Place concert will feature authentic tango dancers Semiral Tuncer and Elaine Carson who together have studied with some of tango’s most famous dancers, including Carlos Gavito (of Forever Tango), Susana Miller, Mingo and Esther Pugilese, and Suzuki Avanelleda.

Tango Paradiso, presented by the Alta Lake School, offers a fresh look at an intimate and authentic style of tango, and with the flamboyant choreography of these two wonderful dancers results in a show that is both exciting and true to form.

Tickets are $17 adults, $12 students/seniors.
