The Whistler Mountain Ski Club K2s (age 13 and 14) have dominated in Zone races this season, but with most of the competition having difficulties with the low snowpack, it was impossible to know just how good they are.

At the K2 Provincials at Fernie Alpine Resort this past weekend, the team, which is coached by Pierre-Luc Dumoulin and Rob Boyd, found out that it is really pretty amazing when stacked against clubs from around B.C.

In the super G on Feb. 28, Katherine Cape won a silver medal for the WMSC, wedged between winner Victoria Glowczynska of Sun Peaks and Georgia Simmerling of Grouse Mountain. Three other WMSC racers cracked the top 10, with Nadia Samer, Shannon Smith and Jennifer Mah finishing seventh through eighth respectively. Jillian McArthur and Alexandria Browne-MacLean rounded out the team’s effort in the top-15 finishing 11 th and 12 th .

The men’s GS went to Whistler’s Matthew Holler, who finished almost a full second ahead of Nicholas Brush of Windermere. The WMSC’s Rey Stanislas was third, followed closely by teammate James McLean in fourth. Conrad Pridy was 11 th and Scott Harrison 14 th .

In the giant slalom on March 1, it was Julia Murray’s turn to win the silver medal. Glowczynska once again won gold, this time by an incredible margin of more than six seconds. Her teammate Elli Terwiel finished third for Sun Peaks.

Five WMSC skiers also cracked the top-15. Mah, McArthur, Shannon Smith, Samer and Sarah Marshall were sixth, seventh, ninth, 11 th and 14 th respectively.

In the men’s GS, Holler was perfect once again, winning gold by a comfortable margin of more than two seconds. Brush won silver once again, and McLean moved up from fourth into third to claim the bronze.

Also for Whistler, Pridy was fifth, Stanislas eighth, Jonathan Wells ninth, and Daniel Penn 14 th .

In the slalom on March 2, the WMSC was shut out of the podium, but Murray did finish fourth. Simmerling of Grouse, Jordyn Wilson of Big White, and Jessie Carmichael of Red Mountain took the top three spots.

Also for Whistler, Cape was seventh, Smith eight, Browne-MacLean 10 th , Mah 11 th , Katrina Dekur 12 th , Marshall 13 th and Samer 14 th to give the club eight out of the top-15 spots.

In the men’s competition, Holler earned his hat trick gold medal with yet another unbeatable run. Brush settled for his third silver, and Travis Dawson of Fernie finished third.

In the top-15, McLean was fourth, Wells seventh, Pridy 10 th , Thomas Kasperkiewicz 11 th , and Stanislas 14 th .
