WHAT: The Injured Psyche

WHERE: Spruce Grove Fieldhouse

WHEN: April 26, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Ever fallen off your bike? Tumbled down a couloir? Crashed in the terrain park? Been carried off a field? Blown a knee? Broken a bone? Sustained a concussion?

Sports can be dangerous to the body, no question, but they can also injure your psyche as well.

On April 26, Dynamic Core Fitness and Nesters Market are hosting a three-hour presentation called The Injured Psyche, which is geared to give health care professionals, sport coaches and fitness experts some practical tools to help their patients and athletes recover mentally from sport-related injuries.

While bodies heal, it’s harder to heal an athlete’s confidence and motivation, and the fear of reinjury is often too much for some people.

By understanding the mental challenges that athlete’s face after an injury, this clinic will provide participants with a better understanding of what’s involved, and how mental and emotional issues can impact on athletes. From there, they can learn to integrate mental and emotional tools into the rehabilitation process to help the athlete’s total recovery.

The presenter is Dr. Laura G. Farres, who is a certified Mental Trainer with the Canadian Mental Training Registry. She also has a Ph.D in education from the University of Ottawa, an M.A. in physical and health education from Queen’s University, and a B.A. in psychology from the University of British Columbia.

She is a level four coach with the National Coaching Certification Program in the sport of field hockey with both provincial and national level coaching experience.

The registration deadline is Friday, April 18. The cost is $55 including refreshments.

To register, contact Diana Rochon at Dynamic Core Fitness at 604-938-9467, or dynacore@telus.net.
