Cristofoli takes over from Rossler on interim basis

Dr Linda Rossler will be leaving her position as the superintendent of schools for the Howe Sound District to take a position as superintendent with Medicine Hat School District in Alberta.

"Dr. Rossler has worked hard to improve student achievement in our district," said school board chairperson Amy Shoup.

"The board regretfully accepted her resignation, while wishing her well in her new position in Alberta," she said.

Rossler’s resignation will be effective Sept. 1, 2003.

Rossler has been the superintendent of schools in Howe Sound District since July 2000.

"Medicine Hat is a slightly bigger district and I was offered the position and accepted it," said Rossler.

Rossler said the relationships between parents and educators in the Howe Sound District were strong.

"We have the educators and the parents looking at the goals of the district and they are headed in the same direction," said Rossler.

"The greatest challenge the new superintendent will face is finding enough money to do all the things you would like to do for the schools," she said.

Dallas Cristofoli will be replacing Rossler as interim superintendent until a new superintendent is found to take over the position.

Cristofoli is a former superintendent of schools in the Howe Sound District and a Whistler resident.

Crisofoli left the superintendent position in 1994. She continued to work with the B.C. School Superintendent’s Association in various departments.

Cristofoli did not want to take on the position permanently, as she has plans to retire in the near future.

"The board needed someone to take the superintendent position and I offered to help the district but I am not looking to continue my full-time career," she said.

The Howe Sound School District expects to find a new superintendent in early 2004.
