Other nominees in the category include North Vancouver figure skating coach Joanne McLeod and softball coach Mike Renney of Burnaby.

The finalists were chosen by members of the media and a sport celebrity selection committee. The winner will be announced on March 9 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Vancouver.

Canadian Alpine Ski Team star Allison Forsyth also made the list of finalists in the Senior Female Athlete of the Year category. Originally from Nanaimo and currently living in Canmore, Alberta, Forsyth spent several years racing for the Whistler Mountain Ski Club.

Last season Forsyth, 25, was third in the world championship giant slalom.

She is up against Diane Cummins of Victoria, who was sixth in the 800-metre at the World Track and Field Championships last summer, and Brittany Reimer of Surrey, who set five Canadian swimming records over the past year.
