Marc Bombois

Squamish contractor running against the ‘big fraud’

In the 2000 election Marc Bombois got the least number of votes of any candidate in the West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast riding but that has not deterred him from informing Canadians about what he calls "the greatest fraud in our capitalist system".

Bombois is a member of the Canadian Action Party and a general contractor in Squamish, but he also has a lot of experience in the financial sector.

After working in finance for several years Bombois became frustrated with how "the system" seemed to only compound debt rather than work to reduce it.

In 1999 Bombois found out about the CAP and their opinions on the "banking fraud" so he attended their annual general meeting and was immediately voted onto the party’s executive.

"I was a personal financial analyst, which was selling mutual funds and insurance and debt consolidation loans and analyzing people’s financial situations to help them try to achieve financial independence, and that’s how I found out about the banking fraud," said Bombois.

"It’s by far and away the biggest fraud in our lives and if affects us all intimately and it’s via the private banking system, it’s just that people are unaware of it."

CAP campaign literature states that "today there is no money for basics: hospitals, water-filtration plants, roads and public transit – even though our economy is many times stronger" than it was in decades past.

And "there is one big reason. From 1939 to 1974 our own Bank of Canada provided the Government of Canada with huge sums of money at very low interest rates. It helped finance our recovery from the Great Depression….

"But in 1974 the Bank of Canada adopted the ideas of Milton Friedman of the University of Chicago… now instead of low-cost financing of essential projects, we pay high market rates to commercial banks.

"The solution is to revert to the pre-1974 system and use the Bank of Canada… The CAP supports a policy where Canadian governments – at all levels – could borrow money at just two per cent interest."

Bombois added that the Bank Act was the only legislation that would need to be changed to facilitate the CAP process of banking reform.

"What we need to do is curtail the power of the private banks to print money, we’re not talking about removing it completely, we’re talking about sharing the function 50-50 and that would absolutely transform society."

The CAP also stands for removing many of the trade agreements that exist between Canada and the U.S.

"The (trade) policies of the Conservative Party are essentially treasonist in my view, they will facilitate the take over of Canada by the U.S., they’re on board with it just like the Liberals are," said Bombois.
