Ski team sees first action in Chile

Whistler’s Britt Janyk just off podium

Whistler’s Britt Janyk came within a few hundredths of a second of World Cup Champion Anja Paerson of Norway in the South American Cup super G last weekend, the Canadian team’s first race of the season.

Janyk settled for fourth place in the race at Valle Nevado, while Paerson was second overall.

Six other Canadians finished in the top-15 at the event, which included numerous World Cup athletes who were in South America training for the upcoming season.

Anna Goodman was fifth, Kelly Vanderbeek sixth, Emilie Desforges seventh, Julie Rabnett ninth, Sherry Lawrence 11 th and Jessica Dakers 12 th .

The Canadian team has been training in Chile since early August, following close to three months of mixed on-snow and dryland training in Canada. In addition to the super G, downhill and slalom events were also planned for the venue, but had to be cancelled due to the weather.
