Up for a run to Lillooet?

At 134 kilometres, there’s only a few people in all of B.C. who would sign up for a run from Whistler to Lillooet.

But what if you didn’t have to run the whole thing at once, but instead over the course of a month? What if you could run that distance on a treadmill or elliptical machine, on your own time, in the comfort of Meadow Park?

If you’re interested, then sign up for the third annual Whistler to Lillooet race at the Meadow Park Sports Centre.

Participants will be allowed 45 minutes on the machines rather than the usual 30-minute maximum.

The event, a fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, attracts a wide range of people, from hardcore runners that fill the requirement in the first two weeks, to people who walked the entire route in 28 days.

All of the proceeds from the $20 registration fee will go towards the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and people can also collect pledges for their efforts.

There will be prizes for participants, as well as prizes for people who collect more than $50 in pledges. Prizes have been donated by Lululemon, The Body Shop, Whistler Bungee, Quantum Vitamins, Dynamic Core Fitness, Alpina Eyewear, Sushi Village and the Meadow Park Sports Centre.

The challenge gets underway on Feb. 1 and ends after Feb. 28. For more information drop by the front desk at Meadow Park or call 604-935-PLAY (7529).
