International art contest still in motion

The local Masterpiece in Motion art contest has wrapped up, but the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival’s international Masterpiece in Motion contest is still open for submissions.

The contest is being presented in partnership with Original Snowboard Art – a U.S. company that displays and brokers sales of art designs for snowboards through its website and recreates them in a "topskin" format for application on the boards.

Big cash prizes are on the line: $2,000 US for the winner with $2,250 US divided between three runners up and five honourable mentions. All winners receive a topskin with their design.

A jury of members from the snowboard community will select 30 Masterpiece in Motion finalists for display on the World Ski and Snowboard Festival website (www.whistler2005.com) for the duration of the festival, April 8-17, 2005.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony during the festival. The awards ceremony date has yet to be confirmed. A people’s choice award will also be given out to one of the 30 finalists based on online voting.

Masterpiece in Motion is accepting submissions until 4 p.m. PST on Tuesday, March 15. Artists are permitted up to two designs for the entry fee of $30 US. Submission guidelines and the official contest template can be accessed on the Original Snowboard Art website at www.originalsnowboardart.com.
