Wink to headline Smirnoff Experience all-nighter at the WSSF

Philadelphia-based trance-dance music producer Josh Wink will headline the Smirnoff Experience all-night party kicking off Saturday, April 16 and continuing until the wee hours of the following Sunday morning during the 10 th Annual Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival.

Joining Wink on the decks will be funky tag-team house music DJ duo the East Coast Boogiemen (a.k.a. Ken Christensen and Juan Zapata), U.K. breakbeat DJ Ali B – a regular visitor at Tommy Africa’s Soul Kitchen Sunday club night – and American house music DJ/Producer Hipp-e. Also on the roster is Vancouver DJ/producer Czech – a former Whistler resident and founder of Soul Kitchen, the undisputed granddaddy of Whistler club nights at 13 years strong and growing.

The Smirnoff Experience is an international party series making its first appearance with the festival this year. The event will take place at the Telus Conference Centre. Tickets for the Smirnoff Experience are $10 in advance, $15 at the door with proceeds donated to charity. To purchase tickets go to the festival website at www.whistler2005.com/estore.

Going out with a Glow

The World Ski and Snowboard Festival is going out with a glow this year.

AMP Productions dynamic duo Ace MacKay-Smith and Michael Ziff will turn the GLC neon for their Glow Me party on Sunday, April 17.

Ace & Ziff, as they’re affectionately known, have been the tour de force behind the festival’s official closing party since it began 10 years ago.

Glow Me will feature local DJ favourites Czech and Vinyl Ritchie and special guests behind the decks, and creative decor that’ll burn your retinas.

Tickets for Glow Me will be available at the club throughout the festival.

Finger Eleven confirmed beer garden band

Can-rockers Finger Eleven have been confirmed as the headlining band for the outdoor DKNY//Jeans free concert series for the evening of Saturday, April 9, corresponding with the festival’s outdoor beer garden from 7 to 10:30 p.m. The beer garden involves several Whistler bars and 100 per cent of sales will be donated to charity.

The DKNY series presents free music concerts on the main stage in Skiers Plaza throughout the duration of the festival. Along with Finger Eleven, other headliners on this year’s roster include the String Cheese Incident, Toots and the Maytals, Michael Franti with Spearhead and Hot Hot Heat.

And more parties...

Other parties on the official festival map at the moment: Snowboard.com has planned a bash at Buffalo Bill’s following the World Snowboarding Invitational on Monday, April 11 featuring live music by post-punk rockers The Senate Arcade from Seattle, Whistler locals The Fall of Summer and Vancouver’s One Eyed Jacks.

Girls rule the GLC at online hub Girlpowder’s Sexy Strong and Sweet party on Friday, April 15. The estro-extravaganza features live music by girl-fronted bands Milka and Mudbath, longtime Whistler it-girl Ace MacKay-Smith on the decks and a fashion show of Bootycall Clothing – a company started by former Whistler resident Maegan Harvey. Admission is a minimum $5 donation to the Boarding for Breast Cancer charity.

And those who can’t get into the bars get a dance party to call their own this year. The Youth Party offers a funky dance lounge for those aged 13-18 at the Telus Conference Centre on Friday, April 15, from 8:30 p.m. to midnight. For more information call the Youth Centre at 604-935-8187.

As the festival approaches keep your ear to the ground. Parties tend to pop up like mushrooms on your dad’s lawn.
