Red Bull energy drink has only been legal in Canada for about a year now but the company is already following the pattern it has set in Europe and the U.S. as a premiere sponsor of unique and extreme events.

Like the Red Bull Elevation, a BMX dirt jumping competition that will take place in Whistler from Aug. 25 to 27 in partnership with BMX legend Jay Miron.

"I wanted to create a contest for dirt, equal to what Metro Jam is for street," said Miron. "Red Bull Elevation is an event designed to let the best pro riders in the world ride to the best of their abilities.

"The best dirt jumps in the world are always built with changes in elevation. Nothing has been overlooked. Red Bull Elevation will give the riders exactly what they’ve always wanted in a contest: Perfectly shapeable dirt, smooth and huge jumps, it’s moderately downhill, there are tons of transfers and there are even a series of 4X4 golf carts driving the riders back to the top after each pass. It’s going to be revolutionary."

The jumps will use more than 50,000 cubic feet of dirt, as well as 150,000 pounds of supporting structures like concrete barriers to hold the dirt up.

Red Bull Elevation already has commitments from some of the top names in the sport, like Ryan Nyquist, Corey Bohan, Cory Nastazio and Kye Forte. The total prize purse will be $30,000, which should draw some of the other big names as well.
