One of Intrawest’s founding fathers, Gary Raymond, is resigning from the company later this year.

He is leaving his job as president and chief executive officer of Intrawest Placemaking to pursue other business opportunities.

"Gary embodies what Intrawest is today and he represents one of the cornerstones on which this company has been built," said company president and CEO Joe Houssian. "He has played a significant role in building Intrawest into one of the world’s leading resort development companies, and has created a strong foundation of people and assets from which we will continue to prosper."

Raymond was treasurer for the Resort Municipality of Whistler from 1981 to 1985. He left the municipality to take a position with Blackcomb Skiing Enterprises as vice president of finance and administration.

Later, as vice president of real estate and corporate development, Raymond helped develop the Blackcomb real estate properties with roughly 2,800 units.

In 1989 he was promoted and transferred to Intrawest.

It is not clear what business opportunities Raymond will be pursuing upon his departure.

The current chief financial officer of Intrawest Placemaking Drew Stotesbury – another former director of finance for the RMOW – will succeed Raymond on an interim basis.
