Remember Dark Star? You might have caught Whistler’s favourite Grateful Dead incarnations at last year’s Bishop Garcia tribute show at the Boot Pub.

However, at this year’s show, Monday, Dec. 16 at the venerable Boot Pub, the infamous band will stray beyond Grateful Dead covers into original works.

Fans of The Grateful Dead, Phish and/or The String Cheese Incident are sure to hear the influence of the different bands in Dark Star originals. But the local jam band also plays funk, R&B, Latin, folk, rock, and almost any other genre of music. You are bound to hear something you’ll like.

Since moving to Squamish, Doug Kerr, Dark Star’s singer/songwriter, finds the band moving shows south to Squamish, and less frequent appearances in Whistler. However, he is excited to play Whistler again, with the hopes of seeing old fans and friends. He’s also excited to play the Boot at least one more time before it closes its doors. Although Kerr is hoping for life after the Boot, he doesn’t think anything will ever replace the "locals’ living room."

Kerr will be joined by Todd Taylor on lead guitar, Dan Perry on drums, Mark Charlambous on bass and Craig Ducomond on keyboards.

Along with Dark Star’s two albums, Smokes Getting Thick and Mountain Sights , the band intends to add a third album to its credits this spring. Although some covers can be expected, Dark Star originals will take centrestage.
