NSCU to give $1 million to Sea to Sky charity

Six communities contribute to gift

This week the North Shore Credit Union announced a $1 million gift to a worthy non-profit organization that supports the physical, environmental or financial wellness of local communities served by the NSCU — North Shore, Vancouver, Burnaby, Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton.

“This is our way of making a significant different to one worthwhile organization,” said Doug Smith, a trustee of the NSCU Foundation and vice president of corporate affairs for the credit union.

The winning organization or project will be chosen in March 2007. Criteria for applying for the grant and expression of interest forms are available at the NSCU website, www.nscu.com, and must be submitted by 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30. A short-list of candidates will be notified in mid-December, and will be asked to provide a more detailed report by Feb. 1, 2007.

To promote the gift, NSCU has partnered with CTV to air a public service announcement featuring newscaster Pamela Martin and the Barenaked Ladies’ song If I Had A Million Dollars.
