The annual Bill Landry Memorial Loonar Enduro mountain bike race returns to Squamish Saturday, Oct. 21 with more of an emphasis on fun than in past years. The theme is ’80s fashion, and riders are encouraged to dress up and compete for prizes.
The Enduro is a six-hour race where riders see how many laps of the course they can make before the clock runs out. Riders can compete as solos or in teams of two.
The course itself is a mix of intermediate and easy riding around Alice Lake Provincial Park. It starts at the group campsite, and follows the park road to the Fawn-Edith Lakes turnoff and the Four Lakes Trail. From there the route dips down to Stump Lake, around the lake to the main park road and back to the group campsite.
Riders have to bring their own water, food, clothing (including rain gear), and bike maintenance kits, as well as good riding lights — the last hour or so of the Enduro, which runs from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., will take place after dark.
The cost is $25 per person, which includes the post-race barbecue. All riders must be members of the Squamish Off Road Cycling Association to participate.
