The Squamish Polar Bear Club will be welcoming the New Year at
noon Jan. 1 with a family-oriented plunge into the chilly Howe Sound waters at
the Nexen Beach lands.
The swimmers will be offered hot chocolate, coffee and
barbecued goodies to help them warm up very shortly after they test the Howe
Sound waters.
All are welcome to join the Polar Bears, keeping in mind that a
no-alcohol rule will be strictly enforced.
This is the third year for the Squamish Polar Bear Swim, which
was initiated by Murray Sovereign and Bryan Raiser. The event is now organized
by the non-profit Squamish Polar Bear Club. Sponsorship is being provided by
the Squamish Oceanfront Development Corporation and Westland Insurance.
Swimmers will gather at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 1 and should be ready to test the waters at noon.
