Minor Hockey teams bring banners home

More for Meadow Park

By Andrew Mitchell

The last few years have been good ones for Whistler’s minor hockey teams, adding several new banners to the back wall at Meadow Park Sports Centre.

The collection grew a little bigger this past weekend, as Whistler hosted the Pee Wee playoff championships for both the Capilano and Lions Gate leagues.

For the Capilano league, the battle for the banner came down to North Vancouver C3 and North Vancouver C10. The game came down to the third period, with C10 upsetting the C3 team 4-3.

The arena filled to capacity later that afternoon as the Whistler C2 squad faced off against North Vancouver C9 for the Lions Gate banner. It was an end-to-end game, but at last Whistler came out ahead in the last seven minutes of the game to win 4-3. Captain Jeremy Fairley scored two goals and got an assist, while assistant captain Cody Wilson came up with the other two goals, and posted two assists. Another two assists went to Keesun Macpherson.

However, the most valuable player award went to Nick Wetaski in goal.

Other team members were Tyler Hitchmough, Malcolm Watson, Shawn Greensides, Zeb Fellows, Sabrina Hosner, Emina Ida, Sara Braidwood, Toshi Akama, and Brin Alexander. Coaches for the team this year were Sean Wilson and Cam Fellows.

The Pee Wee team last won a Lions Gate banner in the 2004-05 season.
