The Whistler Blackcomb Foundation announced its latest round of grants last week, after reviewing numerous proposals from non-profit organizations in the Sea to Sky corridor.
In this latest round, 13 grants were given to local groups totaling roughly $135,000.
• The Alta Lake School received $20,000 to help build a new playground for the school and community;
• Pemberton and District Public Library received $20,000 to outfit the children’s area in the new library;
• Whistler Search and Rescue received $15,000 to replace their helicopter long line rescue kits;
• Millennium Place received $10,000 to go towards the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation Presentation Technology Fund, created last year to purchase audio and visual equipment for the use of community groups;
• Whistler Kidsport received $8,500, which will help families cover the costs of registering kids for sports programs and purchasing equipment;
• Sea to Sky Community Services received a grant to renovate the portables used to house the Kid and Kinder Kapers Daycare in Squamish;
• Lions Bay Search and Rescue received money to purchase protective outerwear;
• Whistler Children’s Centres and Teddy Bear Daycare received grants to fix and replace toys and educational supplies;
• Whistler Community Services Society received a grant to rebuild community greenhouses damaged over the winter;
• Sea to Sky Freenet Association and Squamish Volunteer Centre Society received a grant to purchase equipment for the Hotspot Community Resource Centre in Squamish;
• The Canadian Cancer Society received money to send a local child to Camp Goodtimes;
• Xit’olacw Community School received a grant to purchase materials for the JUMP math program and to help with hot breakfast and lunch programs;
• The Whistler Blackcomb Foundation matched funds provided by the Whistler Blackcomb Environmental Fund;
As well, the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation contributed to a variety of local sports clubs — the Whistler Youth Soccer Club for skill development equipment, the Whistler Blackcomb Freestyle Club, the Whistler Nordics Club, the Federation of Canadian Archers, and the Whistler Racquet Club to support their elementary school tennis programs.
Funding for the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation is raised primarily at the Telus Winter Classic, and the Telus Mountain Valley Golf Classic, which will take place in September.
