Solid turnout for snowy KVRS

Close to 70 racers turned out last Thursday, Jan. 10 for the second Kokanee Valley Race Series event of the season, a giant slalom on Gandy Dancer.

It was a tough race with snow, high winds, and low visibility but organizers managed to get one of two runs completed.

Some of the highlights of the day include Janine Linder Joris’ run in the women’s 50 to 59 category, which was the fastest women’s time in the age categories, and the tight race in men’s 50 to 59, where just 0.02 seconds separated David Johnston and Peter Lyall. Wayne Flann won the draw for the Atomic skis after the race.

The next race on the calendar is a super G on Whistler, which takes place today, Thursday, Jan. 17. Registration is available until 9:45 a.m. in the trailer at the top of the Garbanzo Chair. The next races are set for Feb. 14 and Feb. 28 — a GS and a super G on Blackcomb.
