Britco Structures, a Langley-based building company, won the latest bid to build accommodations and facilities in the Whistler athletes’ village and will begin construction this spring.

Under the terms of their contract, Britco will design and build a 100-room lodge, as well as 20 units of a townhouse complex. In addition, Britco will also supply temporary structures to accommodate up to 690 team officials staying at the centre.

The contract has an estimated value of $32 million, and is expected to provide 200,000 hours of work for Britco employees at plants in Aggasiz and Penticton, as well as on site at the athletes’ village. The main construction projects are expected to be completed by February of 2009.

Britco has also joined the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games as an official supplier of modular structures, and maintains those rights through to the 2012 Summer Games in London, England. It’s unknown how much their position as an official supplier may be worth in cash or in-kind services, but it will likely involve providing temporary buildings for the Games.
