Whistler runners go long

Whistler runners had two options this past weekend, over the Duffey to Kelowna for the Okanagan International Marathon, or over Georgia Strait to Victoria for the Royal Victoria Marathon.

In Victoria, Whistler’s Paul Suter was the top athlete to go the full 42.2 km, placing 93 rd overall out of almost 2,000 athletes, and 17 th out of 210 runners in the 45 to 49 age category. Suter finished the course with a chip time of 3:05:34, averaging four minutes and 24 seconds per kilometre.

Kristina Rody finished exactly one spot back in 94 th overall, 13 th among women, and second out of 128 runners in the women’s 30 to 34 age category. Her time was 3:05:53, and her pace less than a second per kilometre slower than Suter’s.

Robert Tan had a great run, placing 19 th out of 144 runners in the men’s 50 to 54 race with a time of 3:28:41, and a pace of 4:57 per kilometre.

Tyson Rivet was 45 th out of 127 athletes in male 30 to 34 with a time of 3:31:36.

David Parkin was 78 th out of 188 in male 40 to 44, also with a chip time of 3:31:36.

Diana Thaxter was 64 th out of 771 women participating and ninth out of 149 athletes in the 40 to 44 age group with a time of 3:31:53.

Marilyn Hellier was 10th in the same category, finishing in 3:33:34.

Michael Zuccolin was 55 th out of 127 in male 30 to 34 in a time of 3:39:47.

Woochan Jeong was 91 st out of 179 in male 35 to 39 in 3:51:26.

Jonathan Linton was 129 th in male 35 to 39 in 4:10:36.

Marc Watts was 125 th in male 30 to 34 in 4:55:29, while his sister Alex Watts was 85 th in female 25 to 29 in 5:55:32.

From Pemberton, Gwendolyn Kennedy was 20 th in female 40 to 44 in 3:42:38.

In the half marathon, which had over 4,300 racers, the top Whistler runner was Nils Robinson, who placed 109 th overall and 21 st out of 217 runners in male 35 to 39 with a time of 1:30:00.

Robin O’Neill was 26 th out of 2,673 women, 149 th overall, and eighth out of 432 runners in the female 35 to 39 category. She finished in 1:32:17.

Keil Wretham was 14 th out of 76 athletes in male 20 to 24 in 1:35:15.

Dave Clark was 67 th out of 217 in male 35 to 39 in 1:43:05.

Chris Gamel was 52 nd out of 218 in male 50 to 54, finishing in 1:44:44.

Erin Donnelly was 42 nd out of 397 athletes in female 25 to 29, finishing in 1:47:10, while twin sister Carolyn Donnelly was one spot back in 43 rd , with a time of 1:47:13.

Carrie Meltzer and Liz Cullen were 59 th and 65 th in the same group in 1:51:29 and 1:53:08 respectively.

Brian Barnett was 112 th in male 45 to 49 in 1:53:12.

Vanessa Murphy was 96 th out of 375 n female 30 to 34 in 1:56:55.

Skipp Johnson was 124 th in male 25 to 29 in 1:57:27.

Melissa Skafel was 192 nd in female 25 to 29 in 2:06:58.

Katherine Linton was 262 nd in female 35 to 39 in 2:10:11.

Kerry Chalmers was 216 th in female 30 to 34 in 2:10:51.

From Pemberton, Carrie Reis was 25 th in female 30 to 34 in 1:43:27.

Sheila Macdonald was 200 th in female 40 to 44 in 2:09:57.

Tricia Field was 253 rd in female 45 to 49 in 2:26:07.

There was also an 8 km race. Megan Wastle was the only Whistler runner in 423 rd overall out of 1,900 runners, and 21 st out of 123 in the female 30 to 34 age group in 40:38.

In the Okanagan, Whistler’s Kevin Mair placed 11 th overall and third in male 20 to 29 in a time of 3:04:19, just one second out of the top-10.

In the half marathon Cathy Owen was the top Whistler runner, placing 51 st out of 303 in female 30 to 39 with her time of 1:54:23.

Jim Budge was 42 nd out of 86 runners in male 50 to 59, finishing in 1:55:47.

Jan Budge was 153 rd in female 40 to 49 in 2:28:11.

From Pemberton, Casey Jackson was 99 th in male 40 to 49 in 2:07:44.

In the 10 km race, Whistler’s Liane Dunsmuir was 97 th in female 30 to 39 in 1:10:11.
