A field of 85 skiers and riders turned out on Saturday night for the second King of the Rail contest of the season at the base of Blackcomb, with at least twice as many spectators watching the show.

Jibbers made the best of the soft snow and audience and put on an impressive show. The use of wider rails and boxes kept it fun for younger participants, and gave the more experienced competitors a chance to show off more of their skills.

The athletes themselves judged the winner in each category, with prize money based on the number of entries in each category. All the other participants were eligible to win draw prizes from event sponsors at Showcase Snowboards, Glacier Shop, Nintendo, Atomic, DNA, and others.

In the Ski Male 16 and Over category, Mike Ness was the top pick to win $100.

Jon Versteeg was the top Snowboard Male 16 and Over vote-getter, and also earned $100.

The top Snowboard Male Youth was Nelson Langudoc, earning $30, while Marissa Harder earned $15 as the top Snowboard Female Youth.

In Ski Female 16 and Over, Annaliese Fitzgerald was first to win $15, and Alexandra Ewen was the top Snowboard Female 16 and Over rider to win $30.

The top Ski Youth 15 and Under was Jonas Baelhouse, winning $20.

Versteeg was also crowned the overall King of the Rail, while Ewen won the draw prize of a Sapient Snowboard to go with her $30 prize purse, and Jake Rouches won the Atomic Skis.

The next event is on Valentine’s Day, Saturday, Feb. 14.
