MY Place GM moves on

The general manager of MY Millennium Place announced this week he's leaving the society to work with the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympics.

The general manager of MY Millennium Place announced this week he's leaving the society to work with the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympics.

In an e-mail sent to colleagues, Marriot said his past four years with the Millennium Place Society have been truly enjoyable and there are many aspects of the society he will miss.

Under his new employer VANOC, he will work as a food and beverage manager for the athletes' village.

Marriot's move comes at a time when MY Millennium Place is undergoing significant changes.

Title to the multi-use building officially switched from the Whister Interfaith Society to the municipality on Tuesday.

The Whistler Arts Council also recently moved into the building, reaffirming the building's focus on arts and culture.

Also Teddy Bear Daycare's doors will close at the end of May, a decision that was made in part because a daycare does not fall within the society's strategic direction of culture and arts.

Meanwhile, a recently study conducted by Professional Environmental Recreation Consultants recommends that council merge WAC and MY Place Society into a single, all-encompassing group.
