The first round of 20 events in the 2010 Cultural Olympiad was announced Tuesday, ranging from dance performances by the Alberta Ballet and the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan to a theatrical performance by Robert Lepage.

Of the 20 projects confirmed so far, one is set to take place in Whistler next winter, along the shores of Lost Lake.

Canada's first theatre of snow and ice will be constructed to house NiX, a theatrical production that follows survivors and an arsonist through fireworks at the end of the world. This "frozen fantasy, complete with a flaming tuba, a snowman death scene and an explosive love story that will melt the coldest of hearts," was written and directed by Kendra Fanconi, and will take place during the evenings from Jan. 22, 2010 until Feb. 27, 2010. Tickets will range from $19 to $45.
