Tough toonie tonight

Tonight's (Aug. 6) Toonie ride is a tough course in Alpine Meadows that follows Rick's Roost, Cat Scratch Fever, Mandatory Suicide, Mel's Dilemma and winds up in the Whistler Cemetery parking lot.

The good news is that the après party, at Gone Bakery in the village, includes entertainment by the Hairfarmers.

Sponsored by Gone Bakery and RBC, sign in for the ride starts at 5:30 at Meadow Park, in the lot behind the baseball diamonds. The ride starts at 6:30 p.m.

Childcare is available for kids aged 4-10 years, at a cost of $20 per child. Contact Layna from Orkidz Art Studio at 604-902-0423 to register.

Bring your own mug and dishes for the après dinner. WORCA membership is required.

WORCA is also hosting a cross-country skills clinic on Aug. 11. The cost is $10. Sign in at 5:45 p.m. at Cross Country Connection. The clinic starts at 6:15.

A Rockstar Youth Toonie Ride will be held Aug. 12. Meet at Rebagliati Park at 5:30 p.m. The ride, through a set course in Lost Lake Park, starts at 6 p.m. A barbecue and prizes will follow the ride. Come dressed as your favourite rock star and you could win more prizes.

And finally, WORCA is celebrating its 20 th anniversary on Saturday, Aug. 29 with WORCAPALOOZA. The day's biking activities include a criterium, a chainless downhill, a track-stand competition and a kids trials park. There will also be a dunk tank, barbecue and beer garden, helmet painting, music and the premiere of a WORCA documentary. Stay tuned for more details.
