Three months until the Winter Games, the developer behind a 420-person temporary housing project is not giving up.
This week Alvaro Ponce de Leon said even though less than 100 people have signed up for his housing project, he is still going ahead with his plans to put four buildings on the plot of land next to the Whistler Tennis Club and Wildwood Restaurant.
Ponce de Leon has four marketing specialists and 12 consultants working on the project, which he has recently renamed from Workforce Whistler to Alpen Lodging Whistler.
He has also launched a website at www.alpenwhistler.com where people can sign up for rooms or learn more about what he is offering.
The price per bed has increased from $850 per month for a five-month period to $1,300 per month for five months. Businesses who signed up for beds earlier will still be charged the lower price.
Ponce de Leon said he will also rent out beds for less than a five-month period, but the price per month will have to increase.
Tenants will share their room with a roommate, as well as have access to amenities like common rooms, basic kitchenettes, and laundry facilities.
