The NDP is getting prepared in the Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon riding, this week announcing Gwen O'Mahoney as their candidate in the next federal election. She was nominated on Sunday at a riding meeting in Chilliwack.

This is not O'Mahoney's first foray into politics. She was the NDP candidate for Chilliwack-Hope in the 2009 provincial election.

O'Mahoney is a community support worker in the region, working with people with disabilities, as well as a foster parent for the Ministry of Child and Family Development.

O'Mahoney will have her work cut out for her if conservative MP Chuck Strahl runs again in 2012, after winning the past six elections by landslides.

The Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon Riding is huge, including the community of Chilliwack, Hope, Pemberton, Lillooet, Lytton, Cache Creek and Ashcroft.
