Over a dozen local athletes made the trip to the interior this past weekend to take part in the annual Oliver Half Iron, which includes a 2 km swim, a 93 km bike leg and a 21.1 km run. For many athletes the event is a warm-up to the full Ironman distance, but even to get through the Half Iron our locals have been training since at least Christmas break - in some of the hardest spring training weather in years.

The fastest Whistler athlete was Greg Sandkuhl in five hours, 13 minutes and 55 seconds. He placed first in the men's 65 to 69 race and over 10 minutes faster than the next racer in his category. Overall, Sandkuhl was 147 th out of 970 athletes.
