The return of the Yeti

Snowshoe race draws a crowd

Over 100 snowshoe enthusiasts turned out for the first Whistler Yeti Snowshoe Race in the area for several years, taking advantage of one of three racing options at Whistler Olympic Park.

The Sport category featured a five-kilometre course, the Enduro featured a 10-km route and the ambitious Whistler Yeti Duathlon featured a 5-km snowshoe, a 10-km skate ski and another 5-km snowshoe.

Jonathan Pomerleau won the Duathlon race in a total time of 2:09:42, followed by Lisa Brougham in 2:12:42. Robert Lang placed third in 2:20:07, and Glenn Cameron was the third male in 2:46:58. The second and third females, placing fourth and fifth overall, were Heather King in 2:22:28 and Amy Pryse-Phillips in 2:32:16.

In the Enduro, the top three men were Shaun Stephens-Whale in 1:07:54, followed by Colin Kerr in 1:16:53 and Norman Tinkham in 1:17:22.

Katie Wadden was the top female in 1:29:42, Jackie Muir was 14th overall in 1:35:52 and Jackie Spencer 16th overall in 1:38:16.

In Sport, the top three men were Daniel Ribi in 38:29, Michael Conway in 42:50 and Josh Tanner in 43:40.

The top female, placing sixth overall, was M.J. Guinden in 49:35, followed closely by Joanna Pueck in 50:01 and Carly Cox in 51:03.
