Squamish real estate bar now at $2 million

Property on Rod Road listed for $2,950,000

Squamish hit a whole new real estate tax bracket this month when a home in Brackendale sold for $2 million.

The list price for the property on Rod Road was $2,950,000. The listing agent, Candice Dyer, didn't give the exact final selling price but did confirm the record setting $2 million marker was reached.

The home at the end of Rod Road has some impressive extras like a duck pond, a carriage house and a separate workshop on a two-acre plot of land. Dyer said Duane Jackson of Whistler designed the 372 square metre (4,000 square feet) custom-built timber frame home.

The home also features a hot tub along with an in-ground saltwater pool.

Dyer said a "private family" bought the home and the family was surprised by the media attention generated by the real estate transaction.

According to Dyer, the number of enquiries she is getting about million-dollar homes for sale in Squamish has tripled in recent months.

Almost six years ago the first $1 million home sale was registered in Squamish. A young couple from the United Kingdom bought Squamish's first million-dollar home near the end of 2005.

The most expensive real estate deal before the Rod Road home sale involved a home on a large Brackendale lot, which sold for $1.78 million.

The richest current listing in Squamish is a five-bedroom home for sale at $8.8 million on Government Road. A home on Grant Road in Brackendale is currently listed at $3.4 million and a Finch Drive home on 24 acres is available for $3 million.
