Hockey Card:

Occupations: IT Consultant.

Furthest place you travelled. Here - Squamish!

Describe yourself using five words or less. Happy to help.

What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you? I'm more of an artist than a computer geek.

Profile Questions:

What do you see as the top election issues? Uniting a divided community, renewing infrastructure, creating non-profit housing, addressing local poverty and attracting employment.

What would you do to enhance the environment for business?

I would work to repair the District's apparently anti-business image.  I don't really believe the District is anti-business, however recent events (Triack Resources, the trucking company on Loggers, some developments) have lent a negative image.  Not all of it is earned, I do believe some (not all) developers are guilty of behaving badly too.   I would also say putting together a proper economic development team, with a new and permanent Economic Development Officer should be a priority.  Lastly I'd like us to get out there with detailed sales packages to try and attract new investment, particularly larger employers.

Give an example of a difficult situation you have overcome.

One difficult situation was just after the Olympic announcement.  House prices shot up, our landlord (a very nice, reasonable man) decided he wanted to sell, and vacancy rates hit an all-time low.  With our dog and (then) two kids, we had nowhere to go, and I faced having to give up on my growing IT business to move somewhere else because we could no longer afford to live here.  I was very fortunate to get a tip from a friend that a housing Co-Op in Brackendale existed, and we got our application in post-haste.  There was a long wait and some tense moments but we managed to stave off further crisis, were accepted and have been happily living there since.

Where should people go to get more information about you?

The best place to get more information on me is at www.bradhodge.ca , or my Facebook page - Elect Brad Hodge for Squamish Council. I'll also be around town lots!
