Profile Questions:

What do you see as the top election issues? Wise use of taxpayers' dollars; support sustainable growth while protecting trails, parks and agricultural land; airport and industrial park development; more choice for seniors' housing; expand recreational activities

How would you address the housing developments now facing the Village? We have everything in place to meet our future needs for housing. Our challenge now is to attract investment and new business to our community. The future looks promising as a result of new industry at the airport and the opening of new mines. There is also the potential for an independent school as well as business opportunity downtown and in the Industrial Park. These will create new jobs and taxes for Pemberton.

What do you think is the Village of Pemberton's role in boosting economic activity? The money obtained from economic development taxes will be used to fund Fee for Service agreements made with local groups and associations. In turn, we are expecting that they will get the message out that "Pemberton is open for business." They are the front line advocates for attracting business and jobs while at the same time encouraging growth in tourism. We need to partner with these groups understanding what our role is and how we can all contribute to a more vibrant and economically stable community.

What would you do to enhance the environment for business? Listening to and working with the business community over the past three years, we have reduced property taxes for the commercial core to below the average for B.C. while at the same time working on a downtown enhancement program. We have reduced costs in the Industrial Park by eliminating the DP process and changed the requirements for landscaping and fire suppression. We paid attention to the business community and worked to build partnerships that will encourage business growth while keeping costs affordable.

Give an example of a difficult situation you have overcome. Experience, knowledge, care, compassion and thoughtful consideration of one's decisions reduces the likelihood of getting into difficult situations.

Where can people go to get your election platform? Look for me walking, biking or jogging in our neighbourhood streets or shopping in our community stores and businesses. I am always ready to talk about our community face to face. This is real politics! Stop me any time. I look forward to having those conversations with you.
