Logan Glen Daling was the first baby born at a Sea to Sky health facility in 2012.

Young Logan was born on Monday (Jan. 9) at Squamish General Hospital at 3:47 a.m.

It took more than a week for the first hospital birth to happen but Leah and Dave Daling of Pemberton are both happy their son arrived healthy.

According to his mother, Logan weighed in at four kilograms (eight pounds, 12 ounces) and he was 58 centimetres (23 inches) long.

"I can't believe he's the first and it is the ninth (of January)," said Daling 33 hours after delivering her son.

Leslie Gunnings, a mid-wife based in Squamish, delivered Logan. Daling said the process took 40 minutes and Gunning did an excellent job.

"It was my second so it was fairly quick," she said of the delivery. "I highly recommend a mid-wife."

In advance of her trip to the hospital, Daling said she was at the home of a friend in Squamish while in early labour.

Daling said she feels great but she was tired and in need of a nap while doing what she expected to be the first of a number of interviews. She said Logan is doing very well. Logan's older brother Matthew will celebrate his third birthday soon.

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) acknowledged Logan as the New Year's baby for 2012 despite the fact that at least one other child was delivered outside of a VCH facility earlier this year.
