Three Squamish teens have had their cars impounded for excessive speeding on the Sea to Sky highway this week.

The first incident happened at lunch time on Jan. 30, when a 2011 Mercedes B200 and a 2000 Honda Civic appeared to be street racing doing speeds of 145 km/h in a 90-km zone. The two 19-year-old male drivers were each issued violation tickets for Excessive Speeding under the Motor Vehicle Act, Section 148(1).

Both vehicles were impounded for seven days. As part of the British Columbia graduated licensing program, one of the drivers was in possession of a Class 7 (New Driver) driver's license and is required to display an "N" on his vehicle at all times.

Also on Jan. 30 around 9:30 p.m. another 19-year-old Squamish resident passed an unmarked West Vancouver police vehicle doing 160 km/h in a 90-km zone in his black 2004 Acura.

The driver was issued a violation ticket with the attached $368 fine. The vehicle was impounded for seven days. Ironically, the driver of this vehicle is friends with the two previously charged males from Squamish.

West Vancouver police is warning drivers to slow down.

"What we, the West Vancouver Police, are concerned with is the continual disregard of safe driving on our roads," said Cpl. Grant Gottgetreu of the West Vancouver Police Traffic Section.

"We take all such incidents seriously and will continue to pursue high risk drivers throughout the District of West Vancouver."

Documentation of the three separate incidents has been forwarded to the Superintendant of Motor Vehicles who has the right to review and suspend driving privileges.
