The Sea to Sky highway was closed in both directions after an accident one kilometre north of Lions Bay for some time Saturday (Aug. 25).

The crash occurred in the northbound lanes in a section of highway divided in the centre with concrete barriers. After the site was cleared, Drive B.C. warned drivers to expect lengthy delays due to traffic congestion. Many of the people stuck on the south side of the accident were on their way to Squamish for the music festival taking place in the community. At least of the bands scheduled to perform were held up in a traffic stall that held some people up for as much as four hours.

Single-lane alternating traffic moved through the scene while investigators gathered information from the incident scene.

At least one media outlet reported that five people were injured in the accident with some taken to hospital.

According to a Drive B.C. update at 12:40 p.m., northbound traffic was backed up to Horseshoe Bay.
