Whistler RCMP have laid charges against a 27-year-old Mount Currie man after the alleged sexual assault of a child at Whistler's recreation centre.

Police were called to Meadow Park Recreation Centre at 8 p.m. on April 8, said Sgt. Rob Knapton in a release.

"We received a call of an incident at the pool. The report was that an adult male had followed a young girl into a shower in the family change room."

The victim, who was surprised by the man, told him to leave. The male then pulled her towel away and touched the girl, who was under the age of 12.

"She responded by pushing him away and telling him to leave, then went to find and tell her father," Knapton said, who noted the victim's actions and swift response by staff. "The father reported the incident quickly to staff, who contacted the RCMP. "

Ryan Jonathan Mills appeared before North Vancouver Court on April 9 on charges of Sexual Assault and Sexual Interference. He was released by the court to return on April 17, under several conditions, including not to contact any person under the age of 18 or anyone who appears to be under 18.

Mills is known to police and they are looking for any other witnesses that may have information. They can contact Whistler RCMP at (604) 932-3044 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
